DAY SEVENTY EIGHT - Cards for the Cafe

Good morning,  we have the sunshine this morning but it is a tad cold out there brrrr.  I do hope to have a day of doing allsorts, a bit of gardening, a few chores, a bit of a wander and some time in the Craft Room.

Day 12 of this liver shinking diet and I think I have cracked it.  As long as I plan ahead, know exactly what I am having for my meals and snacks, I can do this.  Quite shocked that I really can drink more than 2 litres a day and very surprised that I am not feeling hungry at all.  The headaches have gone however the fatigue around 7pm is surprising.  Just 3 more days to go and then it will be operation time.  Obviously I really am very anxious and nervous but at my age, its no surprise.  It means that I can get myself recovered, have lots of time doing not a lot and then get ready to go and welcome our first grandson.

We had our 'Cards for the Cafe' day yesterday and it was wonderful.  It was hosted by Tricia & Sheila who are Friends of the Sinfin Nature Reserve and 14 of us got together the make cards for the cafe to sell.  Here are a few photos.

By the end of the day, all the cards that had been made and all the cards that had been donated came to 249.  An amazing number and personally, I dont think that is the final number.  I know of a few more folk that couldnt make it to the event but have made some cards at home, ready to donate.  It is so wonderful to see what we can all do when we come together and it was such fun.  Hoping this may become an annual event.

I had best go and start my day.  Thank you so much for having a read and I hope you have a super start to your week.  Tracey x

DAY SEVENTY TWO - Another card from the Notes of Nature Bundle

Good morning, up bright and early today.  Got a bit to do before leaving the house but I think I am also excited by having to finish off the decorations for Easter.

Day 5 of the diet and apart from headache and going a little dizzy at times, feeling fine.  I do like to see the numbers change on the scales each day.  Of course doing this diet, having the operation and a nice slow, relaxing recovery is all part of the plan so that I can go and see the youngest daughter when she gives birth to our grandson in June.  Such an exciting time for all of us.

Mother is doing well although she is poorly yet again.  Whether its a common cold, flu or covid, no one knows.  But she is keeping her spirits up and staying as positive as she can.  Her twin is also in very high spirits as we are all planning her wedding which will be in November. Another exciting occasion for us to look forward to, my what another busy year.

We had a get together recently and had a play with the Notes of Nature stamp bundle.  I think this set is just perfect on its own but it will work so well with all the other wonderful things we have in our crafty stash.  Sally created this card below.

  • Sally first stamped out in Pecan Pie (first and second generation stamping), some of the images from the stamp set on Basic White card and cut this down to fit on the front of a Thick Basic White Card Base.
  • Using different shade of green she stamped out the leaf a couple of times and coloured it in, again, with different greens and die cut this out.
  • Die cut out foliage in Mossy Meadow and Pecan Pie card and put it all together on dimensionals (3D foam pads)
  • The sentiment is from the same set and stamped out on Basic White card and adhered acraoss the center of the die cut elements.

A list of all the products used can be found at the bottom of this post.  If you would like to know more about how this card was created, please do let me know.

I shall be placing a Stampin' Up! order today and if you are local to Derby and can collect from me, I shall be very happy to get anything that you need.  My contact details are below so please, do get in touch.

Thank you so much for having a read today.  Tracey x

DAY SEVENTY ONE - Kits and Textured Floral Mothers Day Card

Good morning. Whoop whoop I managed 3 days of the  liver shrinkage diet and survived.  Today is day four and only another nine to go.   What the does entail?  only 900 calories, only a certain amount of milk and a list of foods.  I can do this though.  I wonder who else has gone through it.  I have to do this diet prior to having my gall bladder removed next week.  It enables the surgeon to move my liver during the keyhole operation, oh my.

Today I need to find my craft room tables.  They are covered in all sorts but that is inbetween  so that is  visiting mum, visiting friends and doing a few chores.....keeping the mind occupied so I dont think of food....who mentioned food?

So this was the card I took over to mum yesterday, along with flowers and a home made chocolate cake (knew she was having lots of visitors and I know they all like my cakes.  I used the stamp set Floral Textures again, well its such a wonderful stamp set and I love this design of card.

The base is a crumb cake card with a basic white card panel.  Linen Thread to make it appear like a wreath, I cant believe how much Linen Thread I use on my cards.  The flowers are a mixture of Lemon Lolly, Rich Razzelberry, Berry Burst and Melon Mambo all stamped out in first, second and third generation.  The leaves are a mix of Old Olive, Mossy Meadow and some Lemon Lime Twist which I stamped directly on to the Basic White card base.    Some are raised, some are flat.  I do love making this type of card.

I am having a sale in the Craft Room.  Lots of bits and pieces on the sales dresser.  If you fancy a browse, do get in touch to arrange to pop in.  Always happy to put the kettle on.

There are some wonderful new products in the Online Exclusive section of the Stampin' Up! store including these wonderful kits

You can order these kits, or any other kits by clicking on the image below. (Kits Collection).  Alternatively you can get in touch with me and I will order it for you for either collection from The Craft Room or to have it delivered directly to you.

DAY SIXTY EIGHT - Meandering Meadows Designer Series Papers

Good morning. Not only is it Friday (whoop whoop) but it is also International Women's Day.  Whilst I lived in Cyprus,  Ladies Day as it was called, all friends together always went out for a meal.  It was a lovely evening as we let all the men babysit, not heard of back then.

After having 11 hours in bed I feel ready to take on the world today.

I have been given a date of 22nd March to have my gall bladder removed.  Oh my, I have waited for this for quite a while. Especially as I have really been struggling this week with pains, bloating and eating, I am so pleased.  It does mean that I have to go on a liver shrinkage diet which will be a challange.  Hubby and I have been calorie counting for a couple of weeks and have been surprised at the amount of calories in certain foods but this diet is certainly going to test me.  I am told that the liver has to be shrunk so that the surgeon can get to the gall bladder easier with key-hole proceedure.  If it isnt shrunk enough, there is a possibility that they keyhole wont work and it has to be a 'proper cut' operation and I really want to avoid that, 900 calories a day it is then.

I have spent the last couple of days finishing off some cards that needed an embellishment or an insert or a sentiment and put them all in my box.  I will either use them up over the next few months or let friends and family purchase them.  You cant beat a handmade card.  Here are three that I did using the Meandering Meadow Designer Series Papers.  I saw this style of card created by a fellow demonstrator, Michelle Last.

DAY SIXTY FOUR - Notes of Nature by Paula

Good morning and hello to a new week.  I cant believe it is -2 and we are off the hospital.  Hubby broke his finger many weeks ago and we are having regular check ups, excercise plans etc.  It is healing but taking its time.

Yesterday I went for my walk a little earlier than normal because it is really getting lighter earlier in a morning.  It was bitterly cold, just zero degrees and with a slight mist, it was spooky.  However, the sight of flowers and different colours certainly made it worthwhile.

Hubby has been busy with his 3D printer and is helping by making me a few labels for the seed trays that we are slowly filling up.  Each year I have to purchase more labels, write on them what is in the trays and then make more when planting them on.  Fingers crossed by making labels for me this way, they will last a few years.  I will let you know how I get on.

Hubby has said should anyone want any of these labels, he will happily make them for you and put the names on that you ask for.  Do let me know if you could use a few

I want to share a card with you that Paula made at a recent Creative Crew get together.  She has used the Notes of nature stamps and dies to create this wonderful card.

Card base using basic white very thick card (perfect for card bases and watercolouring)
A Basic Black layer, leaving a border of white all the way round
A Bubble Bath layer that has been stamped in versamark, white embossing powder all over and then set with a heat gun.  Boy dont we love to the see the ink 'turn'.  This is one of my favourite techniques.
Two additional sprigs from the co-ordinating dies in Basic White card.
An extra stamped out, heat embossed and die cut flowers in Bubble Bath have been adhered using 3D Foam Pads/dimensionals.
Finishing off with a sentiment on Basic Black that has been heat embossed.

The Notes of Nature set is in the Stamin' Up! Mini Catalogue.  I have listed everything used to make this card below, just click on the image that you are interested in to get more details.
